THE AMALFI COAST ROUND UP X ALBEROBELLO AND POLIGNANO

Today we set off to the beautiful quaint and rather different town of Alberobello to visit the Trulli houses which are so interesting. The town is unlike anything I had ever seen before, something like a dream and completely different to my home town so it's definitely a place I would recommend you going to see. It started off as a beautiful day as the sun was beaming as we walked around the town. We didn't do too much there as it was early morning and so we weren't hungry and although it was quite popular with tourists (after apparently becoming reasonably popular over the last few years) there aren't many touristy things to do and so after walking through the various similar streets and being informed of some of the history of these bizarre Trulli houses (and the specific signs painted on them), we hopped back into the car and drove a short distance to the town of Polignano. Unfortunately, the weather had turned and it was beginning to spit (and as you can tell, I wasn't dressed for rain) but we managed to explore a little and came across the infamous 'Polignano a Mare' restaurant. We had a look at the menu but chose against lunching there as my parents would have to put a second mortgage on the house (maybe a little exaggeration, but you get the picture) but I swear to myself that once in my life I WILL eat there (may it be my wedding or not. It's not on my bucket list) as the location is so stunning. When we left the restaurant, it had begun to throw it down (literally) and so we ran around like headless chickens trying to find shelter. We didn't want to settle for a mediocre lunching area just because it was raining and so we did get quite soaked but it was all worth it when we sat down and ate in a small little cafe restaurant with fresh hand made sandwiches (we had a roasted red pepper and black olive tapenade on freshly baked ciabatta bread sandwich), meat platters, cheese platter and amazing coffee. Yum. We left the cafe after the rain stopped and thought it would be best just to go back to the hotel in case the weather got worse.
